Psychotherapy Services

Lindsay Shapiro is a registered Social Worker and has been working in the field of Health and Mental Health for the last 10 years. Lindsay’s experience includes working at The Toronto General Hospital in the Eating disorders unit, working in the Addictions and mental health field including working at The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health in Toronto, Bellwood Health Services, Homewood Health Services in Guelph and The Canadian Mental Health Association. Lindsay has a vast amount of experience in working with individuals and groups with addiction issues, trauma, anxiety, depression and eating disorders. Lindsay also works with individuals and couples who are going through life changes, relationship issues, loss and grief. Additionally, Lindsay participated in running the Family program at Bellwood Health Services and facilitated both family and couples counselling during that time. Lindsay has worked extensively with youth and teens and has an ability to connect well with young people (ages 12 and up).

Hours of Service

Monday to Thursday 10:00am-6:00pm. Some weekend appointments available on request.

Education

Lindsay graduated from York University obtaining a Specialized Honours degree in Psychology. Her post-graduate training includes a Masters in Social Work where she specialized in Health and Mental Health. Additionally Lindsay is a Registered Holistic Nutritionist who believes that Health is Holistic that includes mental, physical and spiritual elements.

Lindsay’s Philosophy

Lindsay believes that individuals can have a healthier and more enjoyable life if they chose to. Lindsay believes that her role as a Psychotherapist and a Nutritionist is to give people the tools to improve their lives based on their individual goals. Lindsay believes that when people are able to learn new positive coping skills, strategies and techniques they are often able to make long term healthy changes.

Lindsay belongs to The Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Services workers (registration # 817869) as well as with the Ontario Association of Social Workers.

Counselling Services

Lindsay provides counselling services to individuals, couples and families. Individuals may see Lindsay for a wide array of issues including:

Lindsay has a person centered, strength based approach in which she works together with her clients to help them to reach their goals in supportive and thoughtful manner. Lindsay uses Cognitive Behavioural Therapy which is an evidence based modality to help people to make changes in their lives. Besides from CBT Lindsay uses an eclectic assortment of different therapeutic modalities in her therapy combined with education and supportive counselling. Lindsay believes that it is necessary to make clients feel comfortable in an open and non-judgmental space. Lindsay views each person as an individual can that benefit from their own custom made treatment plan.

How many counselling sessions will I need?

This varies from person to person. Some individuals may benefit tremendously from 6-8 sessions while other may only need a few. This really depends on many factors and can be discussed during the beginning of the counselling process.

What is the cost?

The initial counselling session will consist of an in depth assessment. This session is one hour in length and the rate is 140.00 including all taxes. All follow up sessions are an hour in length at 140.00 including tax. Lindsay accepts cash, cheque or SAME day email transfer at the end of each session. Lindsay does offer a sliding scale for certain clients without extended health insurance coverage. 

Couples Counselling counselling and family therapy also includes a one hour session with all participants and the fee is 160.00 for 60 minutes. All follow up sessions are 150.00 and one hour in length.

Is this Service covered by OHIP or Insurance?

This service is not covered by OHIP but is covered by most health insurance plans.

Nutritionist

Lindsay Shapiro is a Registered Holistic Nutritionist. Lindsay looks at the whole person including nutrition, lifestyle and stressors to customize a tailor made plan for each individual. Lindsay does not believe in extreme diets or unrealistic eating plans. Lindsay believes that when individuals feel that small changes are manageable they stick with them. Lindsay supports people in making healthier lifestyle changes while giving each individual the tools to do so.

Lindsay has worked for Whole Foods in Toronto, CanPrev Supplement Company as well as Equilibrium Nutrition. Additionally Lindsay has run her own private Nutritional consulting business for the last 8 years. Lindsay can help individuals to reach their health goals through education and counselling. Some of the areas of concentration include: weight loss, improve energy, insomnia, anxiety and eating disorders,

How many sessions will I need?

It’s difficult to say exactly how many sessions an individual will need depending on their goals and at what sort of pace they would like to pursue these goals. On average a person can reach their goals in 6-8 sessions as well as booking monthly or bi-monthly sessions for maintenance.

What is the Cost?

The initial in-depth assessment which will last anywhere from an hour to an hour and a half is 120.00$. Follow up appointments are 60 minutes in length and 120.00. Lindsay will also communicate with her clients via email in between appointments to help support them or answer any questions or concerns that they may have. The payment will be collected after each appointment in the form of cash or cheque.
